new blog address!

Hi everyone!

I've got some big news: I've moved my blog! I will no longer be posting on here, but I will continue blogging on www.trbcca.com. I've been wanting to make the switch for some time now to Typepad, but now that I'm on summer break I've been able to put my new website up. I'm so excited to make my blog bigger and better. I won't be transferring any of my posts from here so I can have a bit more of a fresh start, but my content will be pretty much the same. Please keep up to date with my new posts by following me on Bloglovin or Facebook. I have a lot of exciting plans for my blog and I hope that you don't miss them. Thank you for all the support I've gotten on this website, and here's to a fresh start!

Catch you on the flip side,

what's inspiring me lately: scouts

There's something about scouting that feels so retro and kitschy--everything I am into at the moment. Perhaps it's because I've been dreaming of cooking and crafting when I still have one more final left that I've been so into vintage scout vibes lately. I love girl scout uniforms, especially the neckties, so I'd wear one in a heartbeat as a regular outfit. I remember when I was a brownie I would get ready for every meeting, donning my brown t-strap mary janes, powder blue oxford, brown skirt and cap, and of course my vest and necktie. I wish people still wore full-out uniforms past the brownie level! Maybe that's the reason why I stopped after just a year or two of being a junior. If it's festive, I'm more likely to do it. Hopefully this summer I can fill my wardrobe with more scouting vibes, though I'm much more into the girl scout cookie bit than the camping part...indoor plumbing is certainly my friend.

My posts lately are pretty scarce lately because of finals, hopefully I'll be back to some regularity after this week!

they say it's your birthday.

Yesterday was my birthday, and it was amazing. We went to the BUST Magazine Craftacular and got free swag bags and strawberry juice, and I wound up buying two dresses from the 70s and a bandeau+jacket combo that could be either late 70s or early 80s as well as a jar of peach & sriracha jam. We stumbled our way across the Manhattan Bridge (the Brooklyn Bridge was closed for whatever reason) and rewarded ourselves with Mexican food and Max Brenner. I couldn't have asked for a better day.

I dressed up like a flower girl, figuring that my birthday was a good excuse to wear a flower crown. This yellow top was too fun not to get and I figured if I was going floral, I might as well continue the trend in my skirt. The weather was perfect, although I did get some sunburn on my legs and it was a bit chilly as evening came.  Still, it was an amazing day and I wouldn't have had it any other way!

Summer is so close yet so far (20 DAYS) so that means nice weather and fun things to do yet also final exams and papers. Basically, the struggle is real.

Today on campus there was a BBQ concert with vegan food (!) and a rooftop get-together with my floor that involved free Pinkberry. As you may guess, I often choose to go to events based on food. Since the roof was a perfect photo-op I took advantage of the sunny weather and pulled out this vintage romper I got for maybe $5 at the thrift store. It's a bit deceiving, as it looks like a dress at first glance, but I think it's a fun piece. I mean, you can never go wrong with floral print, right? Flower power forever.

Orange and blue is a color combo that I find to me pretty underused in fashion. Blue and orange of course are across from each other on the color wheel, making them perfect compliments. But too often the pairing of these two colors results in a combination that is bright and loud at best--probably why so many sports teams pair the two. Yet when you use a saturated but not overly bright blue and a tawny orange, the result is nice and fresh without being tacky.

I may not wear pants often, but I cannot resist a pair of crazy pants, whether they're drop crotch or harem style. Crazy pants are challenging to style but that's what makes them so much fun in my opinion. To balance the structure of these pants I DIY'd this top into a nonpermanent crop top using a couple bobby pins. I'm also starting to see that stripes really just work with every pattern ever. So long solid colors!

I love wearing maxi skirts on cold days because maxi skirts are like wearable blankets for your legs that you can wear in public and not get weird looks for.

I'm 110% serious. Before recently I shied away from maxi skirts, thinking that they looked too matronly and were too hard to style. But as I have professed before, maxi skirts now have a special place in my heart. They are the ultimate comfort clothing--even more so, I would argue, than leggings. When you sit on your bed and tuck your legs under you, you are effectively wearing a blanket. When you go down the stairs quickly your skirt billows out and suddenly you're some sort of mystical creature. When the wind blows your skirt so that the slit shows, boom, suddenly you're a movie star without having to worry about any unglamorous revealings..because really, who can make a potential crotch shot glamorous besides Marilyn Monroe?

My point is that maxi skirts are awesome. It's time we show them a little more love.

It's the point of the year where we all know okay it's springtime now...yet the temperature is still lurking between 50 and 60 degrees. So my solution to this season/weather issue was this floral blouse I scooped up at the thrift store. Seasonally and weather(ally?) appropriate!

And still. I long for the time when it will be the perfect temperature so that I can wear my spring footwear and dresses and skirts without cardigans and jackets, etc. I guess for now I'll have to live vicariously through my floral prints.
